The Simpsons had already ruled TV land for many years by the time they finally attempted to conquer the movie world as well. It was never any big secret that a Simpsons movie was in the works: Fox registered the domain name "Simpsonsmovie.com" in 1997, a full nine years before the film was finally greenlighted. When creator/producer Matt Groening's creation finally made it to the big screen in 2007, it only turned out to be the biggest hit of the summer, raking in over 0 million gross in box-office receipts in its first week, before heading on to do over 0 million worldwide, proving that the best joke in the movie was actually played on the audience: "Why pay for something when you can see it for free?" asks Homer at the movie's start. Naturally, all the trouble starts with him. When he adopts a pig ("Sir Oinks-A-Lot") destined for Krusty's slaughterhouse, it triggers an environmental catastrophe, forcing the government to seal Springfield into a dome and destroy the city. While the family manages to escape and flee to Alaska, they eventually decide to return and help save the city in more-or-less classic Simpson fashion. As Homer's joke about the audience shows, Groening and producer Al Jean are keenly aware that their franchise is first and foremost a TV show. Maybe a little too aware, as the movie fails to ever rise above anything more than an extended episode, and not even one of its best episodes at that. True, there are plenty of good jokes; the animation has been kicked up a notch to be particularly sharp and detailed; and there are some truly memorable moments such as Bart's nude skateboard ride and the "Spider-Pig" song. But when the film finally materialized, the payoff for long years of anticipation turned out to be small as the movie failed to live up to its potential; it's amusing but not truly funny. The Simpsons Movie leaves the impression that maybe the show's writers and producers had already spent their best ideas on the best years of the TV show. Had it been made years earlier… well, we can only wonder what could have been. --Daniel Vancini

An Awesome Movie!!!
This movie is very fun to watch if you are a fan of The Simpsons. Lisa Simpson tries to warn the residents of Springfield that the lake is getting too polluted. After they finally clean it, Homer screws it up by dumping Spider-Pig's feces in it. The entire town wants to kill Homer just when President Schwarzenegger orders the Government to put a huge dome over the town. When they find out that Springfield is gonna be destroyed for good, it's up to Homer, Marge, Lisa, Bart, and Maggie to save the day. I highly recommend THE SIMPSONS MOVIE!!!

The Simpsons

Being a fan of The Simpsons since they first aired on the Tracey Ullman shown in 1987 and then getting their first episode on December 17, 1989 I've watched The Simpsons religiously, and then when I found out in the spring of 2005 that a movie was to be made for the summer of 2007 I knew I had to see it.
Its Been three years now since the movie was out in theaters and it is now on the shelf for sale on dvd.
My only complaints for the movie is that it could have been longer, unfortunately it is only 90 minutes which is equvilant to three episodes back to back to back. The other is in the begining when Lisa Says " Dad we cant see the movie" and Homer says "Why are we paying for something we can see on tv for free? If you ask me everyone in this theater is a giant sucker, especially you" (when he says especially you he is looking and pointing at the screen). My point is when seeing the movie for the first time in theaters you can't help but laugh because it looks as he he's pointing at you and all the other theater patrons and calling you a giant sucker for paying to see a movie when you can watch The Simpsons in your own home for free. But now sitting at home watching the dvd it's not as funny.
All In All the movie is good, I love it because I am an avid Simpsons fan. The story line is well put the jokes/parodies are funny. So to sum it all up if you are a fan of The Simpsons Like I am go out and buy this movie if you haven't already done so.

Hilarious!
Hilarious movie! I love the show and this movie definitely doesn't disappoint. You can tell they put a lot of time into it and didn't half ass it and just make an hour and a half long episode like Family Guy did. This has a real plot like any big movie should. Totally worth it.

Great movie, but lacking in extras.
If you are a fan of the Simpsons TV show then owning this movie is a no-brainer. The movie looks and sounds great in Blu-ray. But my only complaint is that the extras are lacking. There is commentary, but these guys are in love with themselves. They are constantly talking over one another. They do manage to mention some interesting trivia about the Simpsons, but since they all seem to like talking at once it gets tough to listen to. Bottom line, buy this one, but get it one sale and don't expect more than the movie.

Great Simpsons but Uneven Writing
This movie is, overall, great and watching it in HD on a large LCD TV is a real treat. The uneven writing and gags are hard to swallow though. The whole bit with the pig was very weak (terrible actually) and makes you suspect someone else entirely wrote that whole bit. Then there were bits where Homer was swinging on the wrecking ball "between a rock and A Hard Place". Just very bad. Way too bad for the seasoned writers on this movie. It makes you think the writer was thinking "this is SO bad, people will LOVE it!". Nope. It's just bad.

That said, though, if you can get past those things, it's a great movie, great plot and (mostly) great writing.
